Australian Martial Arts Directory Features

Each month we will be reviewing a martial arts web site from somewhere on the planet. This month we look at: the Ashihara Karate International website.

I don't know what it is about Kyokushin Karate but the style has attracted and produced some remarkable martial artists. One of these Martial Artists is the Shihan and Director of Ashihara Karate, Kaicho Hoosain Narker. Kyokushin is not Hoosain Narker's first or only influence (he holds a dan grading in Tae Kwon Do among other things) but training with the legendary Sosai Mas. Oyama is bound to leave an impact. The Ashihara Karate International website reflects Kaicho Narker's committment to learning, integrity, courage and discipline. In other words, the site is an accurate reflection of the style it portrays and it is an ever-changing, ever-growing phenomenon - as all martial arts training should be.

The website is run by Hoosain Narker, M. Abrahams (webmaster) and is "engineered" by Tokai Computers. I have followed the site fairly closely over the last few months and have seen it change, grow and improve steadily over this time. Hoosain takes the time to respond to his emails, is patient and courteous, and has produced a top quality martial arts resource for the Internet. Anyone interested in martial arts should stop by and spend some time at this site. Don't rush it - there's a lot to see at Ashihara Karate International online and the content is excellent.

No big bells and whistles, no Java or Shockwave, but plenty of good quality material at this site. The site is updated continually and is definitely one to bookmark for constant reference. Go on, take a look at it now - just click the logo below.

Make sure you take a look at the "brief history of martial arts in South Africa" which makes for very interesting reading as does the material on "Sabaki".
