International Friendship Association formed

South African Karate ka takes top positions in new body.

At the formation of the International Karate Friendship (Shinboku -Kai) Association, an organisation for instructors with origins in the Indian Sub Continent, in November of last year, three of South Africa's top karate ka landed with senior positions. Sensei's Sonny Pillay (Shotokan International), Aneel Dowlath (SKI) and Hoosain Narker (Ashihara Kai) were elected as Chairperson, Treasurer and General Secretary respectively at a meeting attended by representatives from 10 countries.

According to Sensei Pillay, Karate has its origins in India and one of the reason for forming this body was to get Indian Martial Artists to work together for mutual advancement. The Organisation already had its first get together in May in South Africa and will be having its Inaugural Championships in Durban, South Africa in September of this year.

1. Reasons for Founding

1.1. To get together Instructors with roots in the Indian sub-continent.

1.2. If these instructors are united they will be able to feature more prominently and be able to argue more substantially.

1.3. A wealth of experience exists amongst Indian Instructors, and this could be shared amongst one another for mutual benefit.

1.4. By sharing expertise, it would mean less dependance on Japanese and European instructors.

1.5. If we remain separated we would always be weak and never be able to play a major role in World Karate affairs.

2. Aims and Objectives

2.1. To arrange Technical and Referee courses.

2.2. To arrange Bi-Annual Championships.

2.3. To arrange activities which could create greater co-operation amongst members.
